Welcome to the AOL section..

Being a member since 1997 I can say this software has had it's ups and downs but they are slowly coming together well. I would use AOL9 Optimized Second Edition which is a US version because I found it most stable and don't have the ugly cream coloured chatrooms that the UK software has. If you want to download it you can from here

The main reason I joined AOL back in the day was because it was the only ISP who didn't have any cut-offs like BT have. Then there was a 1p a minute charge which was a big of a bugger but then they did away with it a few years later and so I stayed and right now I still have dialup and with AOL9 you get a feature called AOL Dialler which means you can dialup to AOL without the software which I find to a good a advantage but I will be moving ISP soon. More information in my broadband section.

Some people use multi-coloured writing also known as a fader, I'd suggest using MultTools which is free and created by one of my best mates Edward.. you can download it from here!

A Host stays in one room while a Guide moves around looking for troublemakers.

Can I use a proxy with AOL?
Yes you can, even though they say you can't but I have used one for years now with no problem, best one in my opinion is AnalogX.

Why won't my router work on AOL?
Thompson sell routers which AOL recommend to use with AOL broadband, if you purchase a different brand you might find you will need to set it up more, goto keyword: networking for more information.

Can I use Outlook with AOL to check my mail?
Yes you can, more information can be found at keyword: IMAP and I have managed to do this myself with no problems.

How can I change the formatting of my screename?
To do this you will need AOL9 for a start and there are many programs that let you change the style. You can also change the colour of your screename on your buddylist.. you can do this via Buddylist Setup > IM Settings > General Buddy tab and at the bottom is Change how your screename looks.
